Sardinian folk medicine:

Sardinian folk medicine is an ancient traditional healing system practiced in the Italian region of Sardinia. Based on knowledge and practices handed down orally for generations, this form of medicine combines elements of herbalism, magic, spirituality and local traditions. The "iscuradores" or folk healers are central figures in Sardinian folk medicine and are considered repositories of ancestral knowledge. They use a variety of medicinal herbs, plants, roots and other natural ingredients to treat a variety of ailments and diseases. Diagnosis occurs through rituals and divination practices, and diseases are often attributed to causes linked to spiritual or energetic factors. Sardinian folk medicine is intrinsically linked to the culture and beliefs of the island community, representing a form of treatment that integrates physical, mental and spiritual aspects to promote well-being and healing.

Wild herbs of Sardinia

Sardinia is rich in spontaneous herbs that grow wild and offer numerous health benefits. For example, wild fennel is known for its digestive and antispasmodic properties, while wild mallow is used to soothe skin irritations and respiratory problems. Wild asparagus is a natural diuretic and myrtle is used for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action. Sardinian helichrysum is appreciated for its antiseptic and soothing properties, while wild thyme has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The use of these wild herbs in cooking and in local folk medicine makes it possible to enrich the diet with nutrients and to exploit their beneficial properties for general well-being.
